Sonographic differentiation of pneumobilia from intrahepatic stone: U.F.O. sign
Sang Suk Han
ABSTRACT
Pneumobilia is one of the most troublesome problem in the sonographic examination of the hepatobiliary system, and the differentiation of air from intrahepatic stone is very impor tant. We have analyzed the sonographic characteristics of 42 cases of pneumobilia dn 56 cases of intrahepatic stones over a period of 4 years. New findings of pneumobilia we observed were U.F.O. sign, winglike artefact, and nonvisualization of the lumen of the bile filled duct. Findings of pneumobilia only were U.F.O. sign, nng down and winglike artefact. Findings of stone only were ecdhogenic foci larger than 1.5cm, heterogeneous echo, wedge, shell, or sandwich like contour, and visible lumen of the bile duct.
