ABSTRACT
Hydatid disease is a parasitic infestation with the larval stage of echinococcus which is found mostfrequently in Mediterranean area, Australia, and south America, and rarely in Korea. The case presented herein wasa 43-year-old man who had been to the middle East Asia for three years. His initial ultrasonogram showed awell-defined cystic mass in the right hepatic lobe. It was surrounded by three layers of capsule and containedmultiple small daughter cysts with echogenic debris. Computed tomograms and magnetic resonance images showedsimilar findings. Ultrasonography was the most accurate among the three imaging modalities in demonstrating theinternal architecture of the echinococal cyst.
