ABSTRACT
PURPOSE : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and usefulness odsonohysterography(SH) in the diagnosis of endometrial and endometrial cavity abnormalities. MATERIALS & METHODS :51 patients with suspected endometrial abnormalities were examined with both transvaginal sonography(TVS) and SH.The results of both techniques were correlated with pathologic findings obtained by surgical procedures and theaccuracies of the techniques were compared. RESULTS : Of 55 histologically proven lesions, there were endometrialhyperplasia(n=4), endometrial polyp(n=30), endometrial polyp with hyperplasia(n=2), placental polyp(n=3),submucosal myoma(n=10) and synechia(n=6). The diagnostic accuracy in differentiation of endometrial andendometrial cavity abnormalities was increased from 79% in conventional TVS to 95% in SH(p<0.001). CONCLUSION : SHwas a simple and well-tolerated technique to perform, favorably depicting the endometrial and endometrial cavityabnormalities that were equivocal on TVS.
