The authors analyzed sonographic and scintigraphic findings of thyroid nodules in 41 patients. Warm or hot nodules were found to be benign, regardless of sonographic findings. Cold nodules with sonographically cystic changes were found to be benign in 79% of cases: cold nodules with sonographically solid masses were found to be benign in 70% of cases. In the detection of thyroid nodules, sonography and scintigraphy were comparable in 54% of cases, Sonography was better in 28% while scintigraphy was only better in 17%.
